I Hate Needles
But apparently my infant has not inherited this phobia...yet. She was so wonderfully behaved the entire appointment with her pediatrician this morning. She was smiling and laughing through undressing, weighing, and the check-up itself. She weighs 10 pounds and 4 ounces now and measure about 21 inches long. She's still in the 25th percentile compared to other infants her age. When it came time for her shots she was still cooing and laughing at me until she fell asleep for a short nap in the waiting room. We unfortunately had to wake her up to give her the first vaccine orally which she sucked down like a champ without spitting any of it out.
Then came the fun part: three separate shots in her thighs. Two on her left, one on her right. She cried a little when the nurse stuck the needles in - mostly because she had no idea what was going on, and it scared her. But as soon as they were out and I'd picked her back up she was just whimpering a little. I took her to the bathroom to change her diaper and redress her before checking out, and by the time I was putting her little jeans on she was smiling and playing with me again like that whole trauma of having needles shoved into her legs at the speed of light hadn't just happened about two minutes earlier. My baby girl is awesome. She never ceases to amaze me with her wonderful behavior. The older she gets the better she seems to be about these kinds of situations. It's easier to comfort her, and she gets so much more out of playtime with Ryan and/or me. I'm off to feed her as she just woke up from her Tylenol induced nap in the Pack 'N' Play'. Life is good.
