When a Can of Soda Commits Harakiri

We all know you can't freeze aluminum cans of soda or they'll explode, right? But has anyone ever actually seen it happen? My family was able to see the aftermath when my brother investigated a loud noise from our laundry room where we keep our extra freezer and fridge for things like soft drinks and frozen vegetables from the garden. He opened the fridge door to find soda slush everywhere, and an aluminum can torn down the middle with the top pushed off from the pressure of the frozen slush inside. Apparently our back up fridge is confused about it's identity and really wants to be a freezer even when we turn the temperature down as low as possible. A couple of juice pouches and a bottle of water were found frozen solid. The remainder of the soda is sitting out in the hopes that the slush will melt rather than cause anymore explosions.
