Voice Authorization Required

Even though Ryan and I went to the store yesterday, we completely forgot a very important item: toilet paper. So today after getting his hair cut and getting some lunch at Jack in the Box (If I don't stop eating there I'm going to need to invest in some diet pills.) we decided to pick some up at the 7-11 rather than go all the way back to our usual shopping venue. We got up to the register with our one purchase for a grand total of $2 and some odd cents. I slide my debit card and wait for approval. To our surprise, knowing we just got paid and had saved a good chunk last pay period, the cashier says there is an error requiring us to call Visa for voice authorization and makes it sound like our card isn't being accepted. So we try Ryan's with the same result. Then we try Ryan's credit card, and when we get the same error again we know it has to be the machine and not our cards or accounts. Finally the other cashier informs the one waiting on us that the error is directed at him. That he has to call to authorize every Visa card that's being used. For some reason Visa was requiring authorization for every purchase at their store. It had nothing to do with us and everything to do with the cashier having no idea what he was doing. We didn't get angry, impatient, or anything like that. We just found it humorous that we had to go through all that for some toilet paper.
